If you are one of the following students (Joe A, Matt C, David F, Dan G, Henry H, Ben K, Chad M, Emily N, Cody T, Kevin W, Billy W) assigned to do the film review for Forbidden Planet, please add your review as a comment to this post. The clips that I saw of "Forbidden Planet" seemed good, for when it was made (1952 I believe) The special effects were quite advanced (blasters , ship, and the elaborate settings.) The plot was semi-weak, there was almost too much going on that hadn't been resolved (planetary force, what was sabotaging the ship, etc.) I suppose the 3rd segment may have summed it all up, but who knows.
I liked the characters; creepy Morbius, the beautiful daughter, and the daring captain leading the crew of misfits. Its a cliche cast of 1950's adventurers.
The movie as a whole was good, and for the time was probibly extremely innovative. Ill give it 2 Thumbs up.

You did a pretty good job addressing some of the criteria for a good movie. In a review like this, it's a good idea to give a bit more of a summary of the situation in the film. You could also explain your ideas a little more (for instance, how were the props Star Wars-like?)

You were obviously at a disadvantage not havinhg seen the last part of the film. You could have gone into more detail in explaining your opinions of the various features of the film. For instance, you might have given more information about the characters.

Forbidden Planet starts off in space with Captain J.J Adams Crew they first travel into hyperspace and have quite the ride. Anyway Forbidden Planet also starts off with the crew embarking on a mission to basically rescue the crew of the past ship that went down onto alta 4 but never made it back up. As the ship approaches the planet they captain gets a message from Morbeus(A survivor of the past ship) he tells the captain to not go onto the planet because he cannont be responsible for them surviving. As the ship lands the crew is met by a robot named robby. Robby escorts the captain and the doctor to meet Morbeus. As the movie progresses an invisible force destroys the crane thats on the ship. As the story progresses further the captain starts to have a love affair with morbeus's daughter Alta. Near the end of the film you find out that an ancient race called the crill, was 150million years advanced than humans. Morbeus was somewhat able to decifer the crill's language. As time passed on the movie ends with Morbeus's self conscience controlling an invisible beast.
I thought that the plot was really good because sometimes or always we take our conscience for granted and we always have the little angel/devil on arms bickering about right and wrong so maybe if we listened and payed attention to our self conscience then maybe morbeus's would of been able to control the beast.
Overall the movie was great because for that period of time when it was made(1956) the graphics and the models and just everything was great because they didn't have the technology we have today.
This movie starts as a space ship led by Commander J.J. Adams has to crash land on an unknown planet called Alter-4. The crew and Adams eventually find Dr. Morbeus, his daughter Altaira, and their robot Robby. The crew interacts with the "family" and while fixing the ship finds that the planet is full of mytery and wonder, infected with a dead Krel race and monsters of the subconscious.
It is a futuristic story with great special effects for its time. The acting and dialogue is a little weak, but overall they get the point across. The mystery and suspense of the plot keep the viewers interested. This was essentially a pretty good movie.
